Role

The role of the Coalition is to:

  1. Monitor the implementation of the Australian National Action plan on UNSCR 1325 and other international commitments made by the Commonwealth government on issues related to women, peace and security;
  2. Provide evidence-based advice and critical input to the Commonwealth government and International Institutions on issues related to women, peace and security and
  3. Share and disseminate information on the implementation of Australia’s and international commitments to the United Nations’ Women Peace and Security agenda.

In performing this role, the Coalition aims to ensure accountability towards the goals set forth in the UN Security Council Resolutions on Women Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889, 1960, 2106, 2122).

The Coalition sets out to achieve the following outcomes:

  1. Ensure that issues related to women, peace and security remain on the political agenda
  2. Ensure that all peace and conflict resolution mechanisms embed a gender inclusive approach to peace, reconciliation and reconstruction
  3. Ensure that civil society organisations are included and actively participate in the design, implementation and monitoring of policies and programs aimed at achieving the goals set forth in the UN Security Council resolutions on Women Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889, 1960, 2106, 2122)
  4. Ensure that the voices of marginalized women and/or their organisations in Australia are included in the design, implementation and monitoring of policies and programs aimed at achieving the goals set forth in the UN Security Council resolutions on Women Peace and Security (UNSCR 1325, 1820, 1888, 1889, 1960, 2106, 2122)
  5. Ensure greater understanding of the women peace and security agenda in Australia.
